4G versus Wi-Fi

To stay connected in this technological world, we use various internet access methods like 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi. We become excited about getting free public Wi-Fi. However, the question arises as how much these hotspots are safe and how much are we secure.
Let’s first understand these technologies:-

Public Wi-Fi hotspots:
These hotspots can be found in places such as malls, airports, shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. Unfortunately, this free accessibility to the internet is the least secure way as it may involve malware or threat that may steal your identity or may insert a virus to your mobile phones or tablets on whatever you are using the public Wi-Fi. You cannot be rest assured as to whether these hotspots are safe or not. But, if you are having VPN then you can heave a sigh of relief.

Private Wi-Fi Connections:
Well, we all have private Wi-Fi connections in our homes or our offices. And, these networks are a secure way of using the internet if they are strongly protected from malware or third parties. It is very important to set some strong passwords or TFA to ensure the safety of your network and credentials. Moreover, the data sent or received via such networks are encrypted which assure its safety.

4G connections:
4G connections are far safer than public Wi-Fi because data sent via this network is encrypted. With the help of 4G connections, users can connect to the internet at every corner of the world. The main process behind this system is that it does not receive a signal from the ISP rather receives data from a cellular company just like mobile phone connections.

Is 4G hacking possible?
In this era of technology, if a man is the inventor of the internet and it is the man who can be the hacker. Criminals can hack the systems for various purposes because the internet is not 100% invincible to cybercriminals. There were have been many 4G hacking cases done via man-in-the-middle attacks. Criminals carry out this by placing themselves between the user and the app, between two unsuspecting victims, or between two machines. In this manner, they get full access to the transmission of data sent back and forth.

Therefore, it can be said that 4G can be hacked but it would be more difficult to hack 4G than public Wi-Fi, which is as easy as pie for attackers.

So, it is advisable to have a multi-layered approach while securing your data by using firewalls, VPNs, anti-malware protection, etc.
