Do you know that person in the “Black Hat”?

Today I was searching for news related to security.

And guess what I found?

A black hat hacker!

What is it? My first thought upon seeing this is- a hacker in a black hat.

But what it turns out to be is-“a criminal who finds computer security vulnerabilities and misuse them for earning money or other malicious reasons”. All bank statements and financial information can get stolen by the black hat hackers, thereby; can damage the reputation of small and large organizations.

Who can become black hat hackers?

Black hat hackers could be anyone from teenage amateurs who have knowledge related to this and can spread computer viruses to several other networks of criminals. All sensitive data like credit card numbers and other financial and personal information can be stolen.

‘Black hat hacker’ include planting keystroke-monitoring programs to steal information and launch attacks to disable access to websites. Sometimes cybercriminals use non-computer methods to obtain personal data such as by calling and predicting as an identity to obtain user’s password.

If there are black hat hackers, then there might be ‘white hat’ as well.

Yes, of course…But white hat hackers are not similar to the black hat.

“White hat hackers” are security specialists in actual. Their job is to find security flaws by using hacking methods.

This “white and black hat hacker” term has been derived from old western movies. In those movies, bad guys were in black hats and good guys were in white hats. That’s why black hat hackers denote cybercriminals and white hat hackers are saviors.

What are DEFCON & BlackHat?

These two are the most renowned conventions of black hat hackers. Black hat conventions are majorly attended by those who want to learn from black hat hackers like security professionals and academics. The ticket to join such hacking lessons may cost around $3,000.

Law enforcement officers might also be seen attending these conventions to apprehend black hat hackers. To cite an example; in 2001, a Russian programmer was arrested the day after DEFCON for writing software that decrypted an Adobe e-book format.

So, what you think about Black hat hackers and White hat hackers?

Beware of black hat hackers….

Hire some white hat hackers…

This will prove to be a good strategy for any size of business.
