In the last blog, I discussed another crime in the world of technology i.e. Brute-force attack. As now we all are well aware of this particular form of cyber attack; it’s time to move onto its numerous tools which are used to crack the password and are commonly called as password cracking tools.
1. Aircrack-ng
The most promising feature of this tool is that it is available for free. It has WEP/WPA/WPA2-PSK cracker. Moreover, it has the potential to harm Wi-Fi 802.11. It can work on platforms such as Windows, Linux, IOS, and Android. To crack the password, it carries out the dictionary attack on a wireless network. Thus, results are totally reliable on password dictionary; the more effective it is, the more are the chances of cracking the password.
2. John the Ripper
It is also a popular password cracking tool that is available for free. It utilizes a total of 15 platforms such as Unix, DOS, BeOS, Windows, and OpenVMS. This tool is used to test the strength of the password and to crack the password. Also, useful against encrypted password storage.
3. THC Hydra
It is also an effective tool of brute-force attack. It works on platforms such as Linux, Windows/Cygwin, Solaris 11, FreeBSD 8.1, OpenBSD, OSX and QNX/Blackberry. Dictionary attacks are performed against 30 protocols.
4. Ncrack
This is another famous tool for cracking a password. It supports protocols such as RDP, SSH, HTTP(s), SMB, pop3(s), VNC, FTP, and telnet. Platforms that it supports are Linux, BSD, Windows, and Mac OS X.
5. DaveGrohl
It is mainly used for MAC OS X and all its versions. Both dictionary attacks and incremental attacks can be performed with this tool. DaveGrohl has a distributed mode and is open source i.e. one can download the source code.
6. LOphtCrack
It is useful in cracking windows password. It can perform dictionary attack, brute-force attack, hybrid attack, and rainbow tables. Hash extraction from 64-bit windows versions, multiprocessor algorithms, scheduling, networks monitoring, and decoding are the prominent features of LOphtCrack.
All these tools are very effective in breaking the privacy of any account. However, this is not the end. There are many other tools of BRUTE-FORCE ATTACK which I will discuss in my upcoming blog.
