Get Deep Into the Brute-Force Attack – Part 2

Do you remember the previous blog that I have written about brute-force attack (part 1)?

This blog is the continued part of brute-force attack i.e. part 2. Here, I will be discussing the remaining password cracking tools, since some tools have been analyzed earlier.

So, let me bring forth the other tools:

7. Ophcrack

It is another special tool to crack windows password by using LM hashes through rainbow tables. This can crack the password in very less time and it is also free and open source tool.

8. SAMInside

It is similar to the above two tools and is used to crack windows password. It can perform mask attack, Dictionary attack, Hybrid attack, and attack with rainbow tables. What’s more here is that it claims to crack around 10 million passwords per second provided that it is working over an effective computer.

9. Hashcat

It is the fastest CPU based cracking tool that works on platforms such as Linux, Windows, and MAC OS. This can perform brute-force attack, combinatory attack, dictionary attack, fingerprint attack, hybrid attack, mask attack, permutation attack, rule-based attack, table-lookup attack, and Toggle-case attack.

10. Crack

It is the oldest tool for cracking passwords and available for the UNIX system. It performs dictionary attacks and checks weak passwords

11. Rainbow Crack

It comes under the category of hash cracker tool. The developers of rainbow crack got success in generating rainbow tables which are available for free. Thus, anyone can use them to crack the passwords. These tables are pre-computed and assist in reducing the time to perform the attack. Rainbow crack is suitable for Windows and Linux and their latest platforms.

12. Medusa

It is like THC Hydra; known for its speed to crack a password. It is a command line tool; therefore, a person must be able to understand the commands before using it. On a local system, it can test 2000 password/minute. Along with this, parallel attacks can be carried out at one time.

13. Cain & Abel

It is also a popular password cracking tool which is available only for Windows platforms. It can perform various functions like cracking encrypted passwords by dictionary attack, as a sniffer on the network, cryptanalysis attacks, brute attacks, decoding scrambled passwords, recording VoIP conversations, revealing cached passwords, analyzing password boxes and routing protocols.

It is also a noticeable point that some anti-virus software detects it as malware and blocks it in the system.

14. Wfuzz

It is used to crack passwords with the use of brute-force attacks. It can also identify different kinds of injection in web applications.

Above described are the tools which are used in the majority to break the passwords. Always be sure to protect your privacy against these password cracking tools.
